The Old Schools building (dated 2nd April 1441), Trinity Lane had its wooden, Canadian hemlock flagpole dismantled; in its place The Flag Wizard erected a new 12 metre glassfibre flagpole on the roof of the West Gate at the building.
The erection of this flagpole was no easy task and required the skills and discipline of a highly-trained team, undeterred by great heights. The old flagpole was cut at roof level and lifted off the roof via a crane which was needed as the old flagpole weighs approx half to three quarters of a tonne. The new glassfibre flagpole and the new steel support were then lifted onto the roof ready to be installed.
The team were rewarded with stunning views across Cambridge and the opportunity to bring their specialist skills to the University Church's long-running history.
