Dr. Jonathan Clarke Gained his BSc from the University of Leeds in 1985 and running an Orchid Micropropagation Service during a year out in 1984
He joined the John Innes Centre in 1985 where he developed in-vitro culture system to produce double haploid breeding lines for Pea and Rape seed.
In 1986 he worked with the DTI and twelve Plant Biotech companies to develop a tool-kit for the production of transgenic Rape seed. His research material was used in the first European risk assessment trials. In 1990 he studied for his PhD with Dr. Caroline Dean at the John Innes Centre identify the genes underlying natural variation in flowering time and the vernalization response in the model Crucifer Arabidopsis.
He obtained his PhD in 1994 from the University of East Anglia winning the National Westminster Bank Prize for Biotechnology. In 1993 he worked as an European Union Research Fellow at the VIB in Belgium developing mutation system in plants and tools for gene function analysis.
In 1996 he returned to the John Innes Centre to continue his research running a UK Government / European Union Programme to identify gene function in Arabidopsis. In 2002 he became the technical manager of the JIC Genome Laboratory where he continues to develops tools for genomics and runs a service facility for genomics technologies.
John Innes Genome Laboratory
The JIC Genome Laboratory (JGL) is a not-for-profit genomics service provider based at the John Innes Centre. The remit of the JGL is to provide access to genomics platform technologies for plant, microbial and animal scientist working within academic Institutions and Universities within Europe & Commercial Organizations on the Norwich Research Park.
The JGL runs genomics platform technologies for DNA sequencing, Genotyping, Microarrays, Mutation detection, DNA library screening and construction, high through-put sample preparation for DNA, RNA, and Protein, custom assays. The JGL comprises a Service Facility and a Research Hotel. The JGL is a not-for-profit service supporting genomics technologies. For further information visit our web-site www.jicgenomelab.co.uk
