Tracking happiness through Covid-19

15 October 2020 12pm

In turbulent times, happiness might feel like a stretch. However staying positive and measuring the impact of unprecedented change in the way we work is essential for survival.

Our speaker Nic Marks is a statistician and the founder of Friday Pulse. The business tracks happiness at work through research and insights from behavioural psychology and systems thinking.

Nic shared the business case for happiness. Drawing on his work with business leaders, teams and individuals during this pandemic, Nic explained why higher levels of happiness leads to creativity, innovation and resilience and therefore, positive change.

Nic’s background.

As a statistician and trained therapist, Nic has over 25 years experience of leading pioneering research projects in wellbeing. These include

– The Happy Planet Index (HPI), a metric to show that good lives don’t have to cost the earth. Using this index, Nic consulted various governments on how to think about wellbeing and presented the findings at TEDGlobal in 2010.

– The ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’, a project commissioned by the UK Government. The findings were picked up globally by public health authorities.

- The ‘National Accounts of Wellbeing’, a study of wellbeing over 23 European countries. Nobel prize-winner Daniel Kahneman called it “state of the art wellbeing measurement”.
